My Maine Oatmeal

Last year I spent my whole summer working at an arts camp in the middle-of-nowhere Maine.  Every morning the wake-up bell would ring and I'd get up, wake my crazy cabin full of girls up, and stumble, pajama-clad, to the dining hall for breakfast.  This was possibly my favorite part of the day - not only because I got to spend the morning with my girls, but because of the oatmeal.  It was thick and sweet (probably made with tons of cinnamon and brown sugar) and there was always a giant bowl of fresh Maine blueberries sitting next to it.  I'd have a big scoop of oatmeal and then fill the rest of the bowl with blueberries - then when I finished that I'd usually go back and fill my bowl with just blueberries because I could not get enough.  When the summer ended and I went through camp withdraw, I'd make this oatmeal and sit outside and imagine myself surrounded my 20 bouncing, excited nine year-olds and I'd be back in Maine and wonderfully happy.

Basic Oatmeal Recipe
1 tbs honey
1 cup fresh blueberries

+ Prepare oatmeal as directed, adding honey with the cinnamon.
+ Serve oatmeal warm topped with fresh blueberries.  Then eat another bowl of just blueberries because you can and they're delicious.
